I'm a Chinese student in Italy. After my permesso di soggiorno (valid until May 2009) was stolen 2 weeks ago, I applied for a copy in the post office. Might have to wait for months before finally getting it. Now all I've got is the photocopy of my stolen permesso di soggiorno, the police denucia and the receipt for the copy from the post office. Problem is that I planed to spend the christmas holiday in france. Is it possible for me to enter france with all the documents I got? Or should I apply for a tourist visa?

You dont need to apply for tourist visa instead have a authentication stamp on ur soggiorno from the foreign police office that its true copy of original & u can travel with that. Your name is in the SIS2 already so if u are checked at any point in France they can check ur details in records anyway. But to be on safe side ring french embassy & explain ur situation & seek guidance from them.
