Ok I want to go to the States for shopping in Buffalo, and its less then 24 hours trip. My passport expired in April 2010, but I have a birth certificate. I'm 16 years of age right now and I tried searching the net for restrictions and some websites say its under 18 you can use a birth certificate and some say under 16 you can use it. Can anyone please help me? Can I like bring a bunch of ID to the border to let me through?
Thanks a lot.

once you're a Canadian citizen, definite you will go the border. you do not could use your passport as identity. you ought to use a central authority issued image identity which comprise your driving force's licence and your delivery certificates. If flying you are able to have a passport. Get your passport renewed quickly - the renewal technique is plenty much less complicated than it was once.

No you must have a valid passport. The law.

A minor CANNOT cross the border by himself without a passport.

Read crossing by land etc. article :

You won't be able to go, you'd need to renew your passport.

Travelers 16 and older would need a valid passport(or enhanced drivers license) to cross by land. By air and sea, you would need a passport.
