Can a person get a TN Visa at every international airport in Canada?Does Winnipeg count as one?

Also, can the Visa be obtained within the US itself?

If you are a citizen of Canada, you are exempt the documentary requirement of presenting a TN visa at the time of your application for admission. You need to present your documentation to support your application for admission as a TN, and if it is found to be sufficient to establish that you qualify as a TN, you will be admitted in that classification without actually receiving a visa.

Mexican citizens have to have TN visas, and those are obtained at a consulate or embassy. You can present yourself for inspection and seek admission as a TN without a visa. It is perfectly acceptable to apply for TN status at the CBP preclearance station at the airport in Winnipeg.

If you wanted to drive to the U.S., you could present your documentation at a land port of entry.

Canadians are visa exempt in almost every visa cagtegory except E visas, so Fred S' answer is precisely correct and he certainly knows what he's talking about. CBP doesn't do visas, but they do determine status and issue an I-94 showing the proper classification. In effect, it functions as a visa, but it is not, in fact, a visa If you doubt it, check out the Toronto consulate site or the other US consulates and the embassy in Canada through usembassy.state.gov.

It might be possible to obtain TN status in the US if you have the proper paperwork for it and apply for a change of status. But, as I said before, if you entered without it and already working, that will be a problem.

When she came to work in the USA under a TN visa her daughter would have had a TD visa stamped in her passport which would have allowed the child to attend public school and to get an Individual Taxpayer Identifican Number (ITIN). However, most states do not accept the TD visa and ITIN as valid for granting in-state tuition rates. But these rules vary from state to state. Nothing interim will be granted until the TD holder gets their EAD. You should really see an immigration consultant about this. The thousand dollars or so they will charge will make things a lot easier for you.

Unlike the previous posters, I actually understand what you are asking.

Most Canadian airports have US Customs and Immigration services inside of them. If they do, then that is where you will be getting your TN visa. I know for a fact that both Toronto and Edmonton have US Customs, and I also know that Regina does not. I am not sure about Winnipeg.

If the Canadian airport does not have US Customs, you will clear customs in whatever US airport you land in. So that will be considered your port of entry, and they will process your TN there. When I came through Regina I ended up getting my TN in Minneapolis.

Word of advice though, if you have a connecting flight in the US, leave yourself plenty of time between flights (3+ hours), because it might take you a while to clear customs and get your TN. I missed my connection in Minneapolis while getting my TN and ended up being redirected through Detroit down to Tampa. Not fun when you already have an 8-hour journey :)

Most major Canadian international airports have PFI (Pre-flight Inspection) facilities. This is where you can get your TN status before you enter the US soil at a Canadian airport. Winnipeg International Airport does have this facility in place. Please check this site for detail contact info. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/preclear_locations.xml

I'll suggest that you call in advance to find out hours. It is supposed to be running 24/7, but it's always wise to double check.

I went through Calgary PFI last year and it took just 20 minutes to get approval. Make sure you have all necessary supporting documents before your flight. Good luck and Bon Voyage!

If you are American you do not neeed a TN visa. you can stay for up to 90 days without one. YOu do need a US passport to return to the USA.
