Question:
What do U think Advocates Ask Obama to Stop Raids, Offer Citizenship to Illegal Immigrants ?
2008-11-11 15:45:28 UTC
Dozens of immigrant advocates from across the country convened in Washington today to call on President-elect Barack Obama to halt immigration raids, fulfill campaign pledges to revamp the nation's immigration system and offer the nation's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants a path to citizenship within his first year in office. The coalition, which includes activists from Los Angeles, New York and the Washington area, also announced plans to mobilize tens of thousands of immigrants and their supporters for a demonstration on the Mall on Jan. 21, the day after Obama's inauguration.

"We voted in the millions and now we're going to demand progress in the millions," said Angelica Salas, director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, at a news conference to publicize the coalition's efforts.

The last attempt to pass an immigration overhaul in Congress foundered in the spring of 2007 amid a storm of angry phone calls from constituents complaining that the measure amounted to an unacceptable "amnesty" for "lawbreakers." And several members of the coalition acknowledged today that the tanking economy had further complicated their goals.

are you trying to say all illegal inmigrants are criminals

is it a crime to come to another country for a better future?

are all inmigrants drug dealers?

and if they are drug dealers who do they deal the drug to?

drugs are illegal and we are the number 1 drug consumers

dont that makes us a bunch of criminal?

Would be far better if each sweep resulted in a few thousand arrests, but at least, they are working to solve the problem. I just wonder how many will sneak back in as soon as possible. We really need to increase the patrols along the border, and make it felony to enter illegally the first time, not just the second.
I'm gonna rip another riot

drippy (somethings getting hard round here) is that what the article is asking to offer citizenship to illegals? Seems to me that their saying,

they would like a clearing up a backlog of visa applications, improving conditions at immigrant detention facilities and suspending the Bush administration's recent decision to begin mailing notices to 140,000 employers of workers with suspect Social Security numbers, warning them that they have 90 days to resolve the discrepancies or fire the workers.

If such a back log exists what good does it do to keep arresting more for deportation? Remember the video all the white people were watching, it was explained with overflowing marbles to make it understandable to the small minds watching it. To many marbles created an overflow to many arrests will do the same. So they ask slow down finish what you started and revisit.......simple drippy.

btw do me a favor iI hate having to sneak in your back door so why not unblock me or maybe you like it that way.......hahahhahaahhhahhaaa

typical cut in line attitude of illegals well at least I didnt have to wait for them to come back to checkout line with a box of kotex! If I were you Kenk Id reread the link

Turnout among Latinos -- who tend to favor legalizing undocumented immigrants -- increased by 30 percent from the 2004 presidential race.

"On the other hand, we've never had these kinds of numbers turn out at the polls. . . . The immigrant and Latino vote has permanently established itself as part of the electoral calculus."

Their in your backyard, stores, schools, streets, cities, work place, jails, corners and parking lots you have reasons to be afraid very afraid.

I am 100% for helping legal immigrants. The illegal ones are cutting in line and being unfair to those who are trying to immigrate legally. The raids should go on.

The US needs to secure the border better, who knows who is coming across illegally..(drug dealers, criminals, terrorists?)

It's sad that illegals are given rights in a country they don't even belong to.

You guys/girls hear about the mexican drug dealer who was shot by 2 border patrolmen? The 2 boarder patrol men are now in jail for protecting our country. This is how our government repays them? That is just down right sick. Anybody who supports illegal immigration does not support the American way.

EDIT: If the illegals are so set on having a better life, why don't they stand up to their government? There are millions of illegal Mexicans living in this country. Imagine if they actually had some balls and stood up to their government. I see illegal immigration as taking the easy way out. Before the US was a country the colonists fought for their freedom. Why can't the Mexican people fight for their rights in their own country?

Well, as much as I agree with immigration form (similar to or more lenient than the bill that failed last year), I doubt that now is the time to try to push it through. On the other hand, UCSIS and ICE (the two main immigration agencies) are both in the executive branch, so Obama could easily tell them to decrease enforcement efforts. I think this is a great idea, because evidence has shown that the cities and workplaces that have been raided have been devastated by these raids. It's simply not true that there are hundred or thousands of Americans that are desperate for jobs as janitors and meat packers, and even with the economy collapsing, the net result is to hurt U.S. businesses and the portions of the economy that depend on them. Plus, spending money on enfocement (raiding, trying, and deporting) is very expensive, and could be much better spent by the government elsewehere.

I don't, however, think that they should demonstrate that close to the inauguration--I don't think now isthe time to get militant, as it will invite an unneeded backlash. Keep the process politcal and out of the news media, as they'll gain no upport there.

Typical cutting in line and "only i matter" attitude from illegals. Obama has much more important things to deal with right now. Go ahead and march, it's been done before, same with the day where they held a strike and didn't buy anything. It was pretty funny - didn't have the impact they were hoping for

this was a lie he fed to them anyway, he cannot grant amnesty as long as we the people of this country keep fighting against it and I fight harder than ever now. ICE should be present on that mall and haul them all away, lock up citizens that actually protest for these people and deport the majority that we know will be illegal. I call and fax all reps everyday.

It is time that we banded together again my friends. We must make our voices heard once again and fight off any organized effort to give amnesty to these criminals.

Band together in your local communities call your congressmen and get our message out there. Say no to Amnesty and yes to enforcing the laws already on the books.

I think the president-elect needs to listen to ALL legal americans and then start enforcing immigration laws, stop birthright citizenship, welfare, health care, housing, jobs, WIC and education.

Then it would be possible stop the raids, because they would all be long gone.

Illegal Mexicans aren't important enough to be the FIRST thing on the man's list, but ...

... when he gets around to them, instead of stopping the raids, he should INCREASE the raids, and SHIP THOSE ILLEGAL MEXICANS BACK TO THEIR OWN STUPID SHYT-HOLE OF A COUNTRY.

Why should we reward people who break the law? What's next, a "get out of jail free" pass for pedophiles and rapists?

Amnesty for those illegals is a HUGE "slap in the face" to all the immigrants who migrate here LEGALLY.

This is just the beginning of the lines that will have their hands out!
2008-11-11 15:48:51 UTC
Yep, there's a line forming. Just think of all the other groups waiting for this guy to deliver all he promised. Wait, I really don't want to think about it.
2008-11-11 19:53:54 UTC
I think it's typical of that crowd. They hate law and the idea of people actually working for what they want.
