Question:
Should asylum seekers be allowed to work whilst awaiting a decision?
2008-04-15 06:29:42 UTC
If they were allowed to work and denied any form of state assistance whatsoever this would ease the burden on the taxpayer. They would have to pay for their own accommodation, bills, food etc whilst waiting for their decision from the Home Office. No benefits or handouts at all.

When they receive a positive decision allowing them to stay in the UK they should not be allowed to apply for Social Housing or claim benefits until they had lived in the UK and paid taxes for several years. Instead they should have to seek private accommodation and support themselves through working. No work no roof no eat.

If they want to bring friends and family over then they have to prove they can support these people or that these people can support themselves.

What do you think of this idea? Do you think we'd see less asylum claims if this was put into practice?

Sure these people can work in a deportation centre. That way it is easier to keep track of them and we can see which ones are going to be good productive citizens and deport the morons who try to leech off the system.

They dont have to be allowed, they just do whatever they want when they want, they steal, work for cash in hand, mug people and still get handouts from our pathetic little goverment.

They dont know the meaning of being honest, they just milk our system to the max.

They all bring familys over here and use the benifit system to there advantage,so the answer is NO they should not,the only decision they should get is go back to where you came from and stop being a ponce.

This country is like a giant cow as it is,its here to be milked for all those scumbags, the less the better....

Is this a Daily Mail readers' group? You seem very naive and confused, as you ask "should asylum seekers be ALLOWED to work", and then suggest they be FORCED to work. Two different things. Some of these people have fled some vile atrocities, including rape, torture and seeing the deaths of family members. Have you no bloody compassion?

Living in a country with people like yourselves depresses me far more than asylum seekers ever have.

No they should go home until they get permission to come legally. You don't show up then work on how to make it legal.

Ladymoon,

Great Britain has screwed itself with liberal immigration policies. Ten years from now, you will be wearing a burka.

God love you if your country ever gives you reason to have to try and leave and you're greeted with such inhuman animosity.
