California’s Illegal Aliens Cost Taxpayers Nearly $9 Billion A Year

FAIR has released their latest report on the costs of illegal aliens to taxpayers. The main costs are in education, health care and prison costs for illegal aliens in jail.

California’s nearly 3 million illegal immigrants cost taxpayers nearly $9 billion each year, according to a new report released last week by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a Washington, D.C.-based group that promotes stricter immigration policies.

Educating the children of illegal immigrants is the largest cost, estimated at $7.7 billion each year, according to the report. Medical care for illegal immigrants and incarceration of those who have committed crimes are the next two largest expenses measured in the study, the author said.

Jack Martin, who wrote the report, said Thursday that the $9 billion figure does not include other expenses that are difficult to measure, such as special English instruction, school lunch programs, and welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal immigrant workers.

“It’s a bottom of the range number,” Martin said.

FAIR drew from the U.S. Census report and other sources. This study matches an earlier study By the Center for Immigration Reform (CIS) that I reported on (see: “Latest Report: Illegal Aliens Cost Taxpayers $10 Billion A Year” from Sep. 4, 2004). Of course you can’t do any straight reporting on this issue without having some pro illegal alien advocate group playing the race card once again to justify the illegal behavior of these people who suck dry our tax system and run emergency rooms into bankruptcy.

Mexicans aren't dumb they know that even if they are broke and come to america, all they need to do is landscape and they will live comfortably while some americans are just making it on the minimum wage and rising healthcare costs. Obviously they had everything they needed to make it through years of flight school.

On the verge of going bankrupt with an astounding $26.3 billion deficit, the nation’s most populous state is considering saving hundreds of millions of dollars annually by cutting monthly welfare payments to illegal immigrants.



The savings doesn’t even include the billions of dollars that California spends annually to educate, incarcerate and medically treat the 2.7 million illegal aliens (7% of the state’s population) who live in the state that has so generously offered them sanctuary for decades. It turns out that legislators are finally realizing that illegal immigrants are draining their precious Golden State.



That’s why California officials, extremely generous with tax dollars in the past, are trying to find a way to eliminate welfare payments to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants. The move, which has caused outrage among the state’s powerful open borders lobby, would save a much-needed $640 million a year.



An example of who the state cuts the monthly checks to is an unemployed 43-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico who gets $650 a month for each of her four children and about $500 in federal food stamps and other vouchers.



Its still chump change compared to what the state spends—between $4 billion and $6 billion annually—on schools, jails and hospitals for illegal immigrants. That doesn’t even include other local government costs such as police and fire, road maintenance and other public services.



The biggest chunk—$2.3 billion—goes to educating about 300,000 illegal immigrant children at public schools throughout the state. California expects to spend around $834 million to incarcerate nearly 20,000 illegal aliens in fiscal year 2009-2010 and well over $700 million to medically treat close to 800,000 illegal immigrants.



More than half the healthcare money will go to emergency services but a substantial portion will pay for nonemergency health services such as abortions, prenatal and postpartum care and even nursing homes.

It's all true. I live in Arizona and I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers were close to the same as they are there in California. You pay an illegal $5 per hour for a $9 per hour job. He takes all $5 home. He lives in a house with 10 of his relatives and doesn't pay rent. He has pro rated utilities that he splits with his 10 relatives. He gets $100 per month in Food Stamps because his income is undocumented and he also gets free health care, that way his wife can pop out as many kids as she wants for free. Then I see this guy drive up to the mall in a brand new Caddy and buy a bunch of nice clothes with his cash assistance card because he can. Meanwhile I work for $9 per hour and I take home $4 per hour because of taxes. I do not qualify for health insurance because I make too much. I have to take the bus to work because I can't afford car insurance and rent on $4 per hour. I have to pay full price on rent and I only get $30 per month in Food Stamps because I make too much money. So I'm basically working my rear end off so these illegals can live in the lap of luxury. Then they make my neighborhood unsafe and loud because they have all this money and free time to party. So while I'm trying to sleep so I can wake up early to go to work, Pedro is partying away at 2am with my tax dollars.

There is no surprise here for me. Where I live welfare is passed out like candy bars on Halloween.



The best way to pay off our national debt is to severely cut back on welfare. I mean cut 3/4 of it in one shot and force the 1/4 to be divided among the most needy. Not one illegal alien should get welfare period.



Those others would have to apply for workfare. Where they would have to work hard for their welfare check. I bet they would search much harder for a job if we did that.



Illegals are illegals I say just deport them all in one swift shot.

I think you are focusing on the net direct costs we incur to support illegal immigrants, such as welfare payments and food stamps.. But what about the indirect costs? When a school is flooded by illegal students who do not speak English, how much teacher time and money have we wasted trying to teach both groups? This is a classic case of dumbing down our students -- and it's showing.

It is these aiders and abettors and our government who wishes not to see the true facts. 29% of prison population, when there are 20 million illegals present is a high population of illegal alien criminals.
