Will the Dream Act pass?

So I heard a couple of years ago it failed to pass, what I heard was that it was very close to passing.

I also heard Barack Obama supoorts it... :

“For us to deny them access to community college, even though they've never lived in Mexico, at least as far as they can tell…is to deny that this is how we've always built this country up.”

Both of my parents pay taxes in this country. I will end up paying taxes too, but I BELIEVE everyone deserves to have an education. Many of these people could be DOCTORS, TEACHERS, LAWYERS and more. Why deny them that?
In the end they will be permenant residents, therefore they will too pay taxes.

I really respect everyone's opinion; what's your opinion?

Frankly it depends on a few factors.

1. How much attention it is paid to by media.

Immigration isn't as much of a hot button issue because of the disastrous economy. I haven't seen too much coverage about the DREAM act with the exception of Fox News. The more media coverage it gets the more likely it will fail because it is more likely that there are more Americans strongly against it than strongly for it and it is those people that feel passionately one way or the other that do things like calling their congressman, writing emails , etc.

2. The congressional make up

Of all the members of the senate who voted against the DREAM act when it last came up for a vote , only 4 were democrats. With the last election bring in a higher number of democrats who usually speaking would be more inclined to vote for the bill ( though the bill was introduced by a democrat AND republican )the chances of the bill passing are slightly better.

Personally I don't see any major problems with the DREAM act because it would allow illegal immigrants brought to the US as children to enlist in the military . Not to mention giving them in-state tuition makes it more realistic to get an education which means in the long run they would be less likely to commit crimes which would save the taxpayer from paying for housing them in prisons while simultaneously keeping the streets safer,

You obey the law.. or you don't. Most people see that as a reward for those who have broken the law and who don't plan to return, and want further education. And it is. And it is an affront to the American People.

If Obama wants to represent the Mexican Nationals who broke the law, he needs to do that when he campaigns. Not now.. and not when the cost of such a thing is very high.

You say your parents pay taxes.. you pay taxes. When we look.. always, what we find is a very gross exaggeration. You say you pay taxes.. it turns out to be the State Sales Tax, and that is not even close to the actual business of paying taxes. And the illegal aliens cheat us at every turning.

We would need something close to a polygraph for every statement they make. I would point out that 47% of the people who were provided amnesty, and that is what that is, in 1987 lied on the papers, and would .not. have been acceptable if the truth were known.

Mexico, by the way, also never tells us the truth when we ask about the background of the Mexican Natonals.

And if it happens, it will be a case of the Congress deliberately with holding the cost of law enforcement on the border and failing to man our Border Patrol for the express purpose of growing out population. No sweat kid... if Congress does that, I can assure you they will screw the dickens out of you too. No body is gonna win before this Congress is done, and I sort of think America-America is going to be gone.

Yes, you absolutely right. Get education for everyone who wants! This country will be richer to have more doctors, teachers etc as you've said.

Joe Banana wanted to study but he had no immigration status so he couldn't. He was an inspiring nautical man and he became a mafioso because of education rejection.

It seems to me lot of people rather have more criminals on the street then intelligent humans.

Well, who could they hate than?? :((((

Americans deserve these chances more since it is American taxpayers who supply the funds. These illegals have a country where they can live legally and get all the education they want, where their parents pay for it. It doesn't matter what age they were when they came here, they are still illegal and have an opportunity to fix their status. Many don't and then expect Americans to feel sorry for them and cave in to their demands.

We are not denying them anything, their parents did that when they brought themselves and their children here illegally. Why should Americans have to pay for benefits for illegals. What have they done that they are so deserving. Have they shown respect for our laws. Have they learned our language, or do they disrespect our flag when they protest for privileges they do not deserve.

Why should we spend billions educating people who cannot legally work in the US. It is only encouraging more stolen ID and Soc sec #s.

No, it will not pass. The majority of Americans are not for this amnesty travesty granting illegals more rights than citizens.

Until Americans can go to college for free, then come bother me about Dream Acts and that sort of stuff. BUT if there are illegals who are extraordinary and have a 4.0 then of course they should get aid.

My position is no aid for dumb a**es

No it won't. It is not a dream. Its a freakin' nightmare.

Why on earth would we want to support criminals? Why would we want to give every parent in the world a reason to defy US laws in the hopes that their child will be forgiven of their sins?

It makes no sense. What a crock.

Enter legally, be self supporting. If you don't respect our laws enough to honor and obey them, then don't ask us to respect your children.

Not if 78% of Americans have their way. Why can't these people go and make Mexico great if they have so much to offer? We can't afford to import illegal labor and poverty dependent on the government dole.

There's no such thing. It was defeated, and died, in the last Congress.
