Obama’s failure with immigration reform results in anti-immigrant police forces
by Moses Apsan, Esq.

A recent report issued by the Department of Homeland Security’s, inspector general, demonstrates how Congress’ failure to act on immigration reform, has resulted in anti- immigrant police running amuck throughout the country. The inspector general report describes a program known as 287(g), after the clause in immigration law that established it. Under this program state and local law enforcement entity can enter into a partnership with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and receive delegated authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions. Enforcement agencies under this program are permitted to question immigrants about their legal status and detain them for possible deportation. Currently there are some 60 county and state police forces that have partnered up with ICE. Officials hoped it would be a "force multiplier" for ICE, in its effort to stop illegal immigrants who posed a threat to public safety.

The inspector general report concludes that there are big concerns with the program. In some cases, the local police’s training were so insufficient, that some don’t know how to process cases or who they should be targeting. Some are hunting down non-criminal immigrants, in disregard to the intent of the program. In one case described in the New York Times, an illegal immigrant who was the victim of a car crash was arrested.

I don't have any particular problem at all having them run the identities of anyone currently locked up for one reason or another. having them check on folks who are out and about is a lot more problematic, precisely because they don't have any real immigration training, have no access to immigration data systems, etc, so they'll do the best they can and make a lot of mistakes, and end up simply harassing a lot of people who are here legally under various immigrant and nonimmigrant statuses. Not to mention, if the local police round up too many people, DHS/ICE will be overloaded and unable to handle them. that would simply lead to them being released back into the population, which is very counterproductive in my opinion. so, having them help out is one thing, but it's pretty hard to control if the local cops are actually enforcing Federal immigration law.

The answer is YES! Now here are the reasons: 1. It is against the law to be in the United States illegally. That is a U.S. federal legitimate law that does not have to be questioned or removed from the law books. Read U.S. Code 8 (ALIENS AND NATIONALITY). 2. All 50 states including U.S. territories must obey and enforce U.S. federal laws, as mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. 3. All government officials (local, county, state, and federal) must take an oath to uphold all U.S. laws and end it by saying “so help me God”. 4. It is the responsibility of all government officials (local, county, state, and federal) if they find illegal immigrants (through their own police force) to just turn them in to ICE and ICE will have them deported. If any government official looks the other way with full knowledge of illegal immigrants then that person is breaking the law. So it is not just a federal thing, it applies to all levels of government. If any lawyer tells you other wise, then that person is lying. Enforcing the borders is a joint effort for all levels of government. 5. All countries have the right to enforce their borders and they have the right to be xenophobic. If the United States wants to close the borders then it can do so without the permission on non-U.S. Citizens. 6. The reason why there are so many illegal immigrants is because big business wants them here as cheap labor and is too cheap pay decent wages to Americans for the same jobs. So they bribe the government and to tell them to look the other way. If they really need cheap labor, the government can provide a legitimate guest-worker program. This way it is controlled and documented. 7. Enforcing the borders is easy and cheaper than trying to catch 20 million illegal immigrants in a short period of time. However, it can be done using our existing resources. a. Police officers will eventually run into and apprehend illegal immigrants through their regular police work, which does not require more funding. The only catch is time. Within five to ten years, the police can catch about eight to fifteen illegal immigrants and turn them into ICE. ICE will deport them with very little processing time. This can be done if government officials do not look the other way and just enforce the law. b. For hard core criminals who are illegal, just sent them to U.S. prison for a long time. c. Big business and special interest groups have to be punished as well. Again, you want cheap immigrant labor, start a quest worker program. There is no debate here. It is the duty of all US law enforcement officers to assist ICE.

I agree with it. If we could control the border, a huge amount of dope would be stopped, and the illegal aliens would also be stopped. That would have the effect of cleaning up our city streets and enable far more peaceful circumstances for the American People. At that point, if the local police arrested the illegal aliens, and they were put back over the border, that peace would be achieved.

And we could do it. The law enforcement tools the Schumer Graham initiative would use would enable circumstance where-in the illegal aliens would not be able to get jobs..so they wouldn't come, and if illegal aliens were put back over the border, they would stay over the border. We don't need amnesty.. we need those tools, and if they are put in place, there will be peace in the valley.

I want to point out we would save a huge, huge amount of money. If we did put the illegal aliens back over the border, and then turned and made Mexico our 'special' case for perhaps ten years, we could do a very great deal about making Mexico a place to live for the people.

There is a lot of corruption down there. It would have to be with the permission of the Mexican Government, and it would have to be sustained.

I guess the rule of law doesn't mean much to illegals but it was one of the reasons why our nation has lasted as long as it has. You go down to Mexico or many other nations in Latin America and find the rule of law does not exist. When you get stopped by a cop, you automatically pay a bribe. Here you just get a ticket. The rule of law also applies to entry into this country. When the laws are no longer respected or selectively enforced, you can no longer expect any stability. Any country's first responsibility is to its own citizens even though everyone benefits from an education. There are more and more cases of citizens taking a back seat to illegals in many things, not just education. In this economy, there are many that are the poor, tired, hungry, and needing an education that were born here or went the legal route to become citizens. They should not be made to ride in the back of the bus. Business is part of the reason. Without people breaking the law in the first place, there would be no one to hire. People here illegally and those that support them, try to put the blame on other people for their actions. That's wrong, they know they are breaking the law. The largest source of illegally workers here is Mexico (60% Pew Hispanic center). Mexico has the 15th largest economy in the world. They are middle class as far as countries go. There is over 5 billion people in the world worse off than them.

Latino's make up 7% of the world's population. Yet their organizations demand 36% of our legal green cards. That's not fair to the rest of the world. Demanding preferential treatment over other races is racist.

Of the 20-40 million here illegally, 78% are Latino. (Pew Hispanic center). They feel an entitlement to come here illegally. They feel they have a right, and are better than other races. That's racist.

Until they stand in line, and accept that they are not more privileged than any other race or ethnic group, we are going to have this problem.

Budgets are being cut, the disabled and poor are seeing services cut. There is no reason for our country to educate people not invited here. (605 million dollars a year for grades k-college) We are teaching wrong principles and morals to their children by accepting and rewarding lawbreakers.

Obama has done Nothing about the Immigration situation- that EVERY President Before Him hasn't. And that's ONLY because it's a very BIG & Complicated Issue- and he's just been alittle "Busy" working on a number of BIGGER Ones, over the Past Year. NEXT year- the matter WILL be taken up- & I am CERTAIN that alot of People are NOT going to Like what He proposes !!! SO; -let's just say that I "agree" with your Question... -But that you should "be careful" WHAT You Ask for... ! ;)

Illegals never have cash they find cash be smuggled in they can come up with thousands but cannot pay any fee's for immigration. If the activists have their way illegals will not subject to the laws of America.Every time we get the kids. They sure did not think about what position they would put their kids in.They just know with kids you get more support. There are kids in Mexico who make it.How hard can it be to arrest an illegal ?Why are illegals expected to not be held accountable for breaking the laws.

i live in georgia an that rule is being applied here. its a mistake. but there is a lot of bigotry in georgia so its not unexpected. especially with the economic climate. people here want to blame immigrants for the problem reality is if you took the hundred thousand or so from here are economy would collapse. what is missed in all this is that the deportation takes parents from their kids. so how does a kid who was born here manage. well i would guess either they rely on relatives or the state. we need a buy in for immigrants . i know some legal immigrants that are here. it is really hard to become a citizen an very expensive. but to your question its common sense that local authorities arent train to deal with this . the rule needs to be dropped

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT CRIMINALS, EVEN THE LAW CONSIDER ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AS A MISDEMEANOR, THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION IS VERY GRIM, RACIST PEOPLE WILL USE ALL KINDS OF ARGUMENTS TO CRIMINALIZE THEM BECAUSE ITS THEIR PLAN, THEY KNOW IT BUT THEY RATHER LIE BEFORE ACCEPTING THAT ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THIS MODERN ECONOMY. I HAVE FOUND THAT MOST IGNORANT SHEEP REDNECKS ARE AGAINST REFORM ONLY BECAUSE THEY HATE HISPANICS OR THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO.

I agree with local police finding illegals and arresting them helping ICE do their jobs. It is called protecting citizens from criminals, and illegals are breaking laws making them criminals.
