AZ-based border Minuteman group calls it quits

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is no longer.

The Arizona-based border watch group that burst onto the national scene in 2005 sent an email to its members this week announcing the corporation has dissolved.

The group’s president, Carmen Mercer, of Tombstone, said she and the board’s two other directors voted to end the group’s five-year run because they were worried her recent “call to action” would attract the wrong people to the border.

On March 16, Mercer sent out an e-mail urging members to come to the border “locked, loaded and ready” and urged people to bring “long arms.” She proposed changing the group’s rules to allow members to track illegal immigrants and drug smugglers instead of just reporting the activity to the Border Patrol.

“We will forcefully engage, detain, and defend our lives and country from the criminals who trample over our culture and laws,” she wrote in the March 16 e-mail.

Mercer said she received a more feverish response than she expected — 350 personal e-mails she said — and decided the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps couldn’t shoulder the responsibility and liability of what could occur, she said.

Mixing up this group with the right minute men does nothing he/she. The real minute men are still fighting the fight against illegals by doing it the legal way.



Minuteman Project Expands While Others Drop

Jim Gilchrist has just approved the largest expansion of the Minutemen since the inception in 2004. Gilchrist has just completed an alliance with several organizations, and thereby expanding the Minuteman base geometrically. While the details are still limited, Gilchrist’s dream of bringing national awareness to the issue of illegal immigration is developing at a fast pace.







On the flipside, an independent Minuteman organization in Tombstone, Arizona has reported to have thrown in the towel. MCDC this week notified several of their supports they will no longer run border operations.







“I have always supported independent Minuteman organizations like Chris Simcox and his MCDC no matter how large or small, as long as they are on mission.” Gilchrist told reporters at a recent press conference in Texas. Gilchrist went on to says: “I wish Chris and his friends the best and encourage him to join our ranks; he is always welcome at the Minuteman Project, Inc.”







Gilchrist’s plans for expansion include the MinutemanProject.com website. The new site will allow interactive use of new technology, much like the Tea Party is using today. The Minuteman Project is expanding their presence at Town Hall meetings. The Minuteman Project expansion includes combined selective border operations with skilled and seasoned Minutemen only.







“I am delighted the Minuteman Project, lead by Jim Gilchrist, is answering the call to bring awareness to the illegal alien invasion. Even though we are the largest and the oldest Minuteman organization, we still believe every Citizen has a voice and soon we will be able to give those voices a way to speak to America.” Stephen Eichler J.D. “One of our new coalition partners has a membership base well into the hundreds of thousands and we expect to ‘swear in’ the complete membership into the ranks of the Minuteman Project this summer.” Gilchrist said.







It is noted the Minuteman Project, Inc. has just finished its 5th year of operation receiving top marks for financial solvency and a clean bill of health from two independent C.P.A. accounting firms. The 501 C 4 non-profit status of the Minuteman Project, Inc. once again has been reviewed and given a clean bill of health.







“When I met with the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry last month, I was impressed with his concern for border security. I expect to work hand in hand with the Texas Border Patrol, Sheriff's Department and directly with the Office of the Governor for a resolution to address the dangerous Mexican/Texas border. That’s all I can say about these arrangements at this time.” Gilchrist stated.







Some Minuteman organizations are formed to address a specific issue, while others are the leaders in the ongoing fight to enforce our immigration laws. The Minuteman Project is without a doubt, not only the original modern-day Minuteman organization, but the one that is still fighting for America.

I find it amazing that you all harp about a 9 yr old child being killed by 3 radical minutemen, but say Absolutely nothing about the number of US child molested and killed by illegal aliens. Why is that?

Can you explain to us why it's ok for illegals to kill Americans, but It is against everything for an American to kill a (suspected) illegal?



The group did not advocate violence. They do not like the rep they are now getting because of some off the wall radical people and it was smarter to disband.
