Question:
Should immigrants be allowed to work in British Job Centres?
2008-10-17 05:05:15 UTC
Just an observation I made this morning when a Korean processed my claim because in my opinion, its no different to having a foreign Prime Minister / President in power. Its like one of the last places they should be allowed to work. Its insulting, only British born people should be allowed to work in job centres. Lets take care of our own people first!

I believe that everyone should be able to apply for jobs but priority should be given to British. So, if two people are equally qualified for a job, the British person should be offered it first...and NO, I am not racist.

All Call Centres around the world being run with British Money for foreign Nationals should adopt another policy . The Credit crunch should be enough reason to close them down and the Job market in UK increased. Charity begins at Home.

What do you mean by immigrant and British? IF you see someone of a black or Indian race working in the job center how can you assume if they are Immigrants?

If you dint know they are people of all races who are British Citizens and not just white.

Sorry to disappoint you. I am was an " immigrant" myself and I work for the Gov't. I am Brit Cit, and i have undergone the same recruitment process like my english non immigrant colleagues. I speak the same language and apply the same law and adhere to the rules just like the rest of my colleagues. This Korean may have successfully and rightfully obtained that job as Civil Servant, just like I did.

Give the english the jobs first? Yes, I agree, but not many want to apply for them perhaps, they may not be qualified, experienced or willing to do that. Its not offensive, its natural progression. I am proud to be civil servant serving your Queen and Gov't who gave me Brit PPT!

By the way, to work as Civil Servant you must be Brit Cit, not EU national, must be intelligent, and have numeracy skills, and go through hard sifting process... It takes aprox 10 months to become Civil Servant and aprox 4 years to be a good grade. You try it!

I think the way the job situation is going to be in the next couple of years we all should think very hard about immigrants getting jobs anywhere in this country, I have no problem with immigrants myself but with all these eastern europeans coming into our country, and the job shortage that is only going to get worse as time goes on there will be troubles ahead, someone in the government will be feeling very ashamed of themselves, HA! I doubt that very much.

I understand your point, I must say again mass immigration is humiliating the real British. The BBC play a big part in encouraging mass immigration in their employment policy.

Edit:

Employment records, degrees etc are for sale in many countries, the naive British (joke of the world) have still not caught on about this. (See the link for where you can buy degrees, crime free records , false employment records etc)

if we didn't allow them in we wouldn't have the problem of them taking jobs, letting skilled workers fill vacancy's that we cant is one thing making thousands of not needed on paper jobs to accommodate immigrant voters is another, sooner or later the far far far right will get its hands on the reigns, then it will as if Hitler and Germany had won the war,not just beaten us through the un voted for EU takeover.

I'd feel insulted about that too. I'm American and was detained at customs by an Indian border agent. She called my friend and asked if he was a British citizen and he said, "Yes. Are you?" She had a heavy Indian accent, and almost made me get on the next plane back to America.

That's just racist, if you are a citizen or a permanent resident you should be allowed to do any government job, it shouldn't be restricted to people born here, what about a person born to British parents while they are abroad on holiday, under your rule they wouldn't be allowed to work in a government job, that's just stupid

You're advocating racial discrimination, whatever you prefer to call it. If they allow it in the case of Jobcentres, the lid's off. The example can be used and the parameters stretched to cover other cases. Policy--it's NOT ALLOWED. Sorry.

oooo controversial. I guess if they have proper visas and qualifications and go through the same recruitment criteria then what's to stop them. Take your point though but most immigrants take the job our folk can't afford to take or don't want to take.

i don't think that immigrants should be allowed to work in government jobs, it is not Right that foreigners dictate or question british people, i have no problem with them working but not in positions where they have power to scrutinise or give or refuse british people benefits etc.

I see your point, my grand dad [many MANY years ago] was heart broken at being laid off and finally caved in and went to the DHSS offices only to be told that basically he would be better off leaving the country, he just about flipped his lid as he was being told this by some indian guy............. Times have not really changed.

Hell, under New Labour we have had illegals working in the Home Office and such. Regarding your question, unless they have detailed knowledge of our culture then I would say no.

How did you know they were an immigrant? Maybe they were the best applicant for the job? Did you apply for this job?

Maybe they were in the job because all the 'British' applicants were rubbish? Who knows.
Huh?

If they're working legally, certainly.
