If you did not initiate the first contact, then it is a scam by definition. As they say that you have to get the work permit, then it is a scam by definition. ONLY THE EMPLOYERS CAN OBTAIN THE WORK PERMIT and they have to prove that a) they are on the UK Border Agency's list of approved employers to employ people from outside the European Union (which no hotel is), and b) they have advertised the vacancy and not been able to find a suitable applicant from among the 2.5 million people who are already resident in the UK who currently have no work, or among the other 300 million citizens of the European Union who have employment rights in the UK ahead of anyone else in the world. Plainly this is nonsense. Bluntly stated: NO-ONE FROM OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN UNION CAN LEGALLY WORK IN A HOTEL IN THE UK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This is an extremely common fraud which seems to be particularly aimed at people in India and the Philippines, from what we see of questions asked here. The fundamental giveaways which tell you that the offer is fraudulent are:- a) you did not originally apply for the job b) you have not been interviewed IN PERSON by the supposed employer (no reputable employer would, or legally can, employ someone without physically interviewing them) c) visas can only be issued by the British Embassy / High Commission in the applicant's own country, and the applicant is required to be interviewed there, and pay all required monies there before the visa is issued. d) additionally, if the offer includes a telephone number that begins +44 70 then no further investigation is needed - no reputable business uses such telephone numbers which can be rerouted to any telephone anywhere in the world, and they are typically used by West African fraudsters.

100% SCAM

The first clue is that it is not a valid hotel number, it's a Nigerian scam phone number http://www.joewein.net/blog/2009/11/08/dial-44-70-uk-numbers-for-international-fraudsters/

The second clue is that there are NO visas for hotel workers as hotel workers are NOT a shortage occupation and NO hotel would ever be able to prove they advertised a vacancy for at least 4 weeks and NOT ONE EU citizen applied

The third clue is that NO UK hotel will ever hire anyone without a single face to face interview at the actual hotel

The fourth is that UK hotels do not provide accommodations

Forward that email to recruitment@edwardian.com which is the HR office of Edwardian Hotels, the owner of the real May Fair, and DO NOT respond to these scammers for any reason

100% scam. With unemployment at an all time high in the UK, why do you think that they are allowing anyone to import foreign workers?

I bet you will get a hefty request for money order to "process your visa and work permit applications" after you have accepted which will not guarantee that you will get it. Do not fall for it. It is a scam.
