Question:
I'm sick of hearing that immigrants to the UK are looking for a better life.?

Of course they want a better life but why should us tax payers have to pay for it? I'm fed up with the people who say live and let live and immigrants are people too. Where's the cut off point for how many we have to pay for? Will our taxes just keep getting higher to cover all their needs? The NHS is already in trouble, probably not helped by having to cure all their illnesses that they've brought with them. SEND THEM BACK AND DON'T LET THEM BACK IN! Who's with me? Don't you want your country back, where you can say what you want and political correctness doesn't stop you doing so much? (Like flying the flag for England). Why should we have to pay taxes to pay for translators so the people who don't even know English can learn in our schools? Why should immigrants get housing and everything they need free, right down to their TV licence when our Elderly can't even keep warm in the winter and we have so many homeless on the streets.

Hurray some one thinks the same as me, why should we pay for it think they should work her for some time before they can claim and on top of that they beg too to get some more. Two of colleagues dated these guys and they claimed vouchers for food, clothes, rent was paid for etc and yet they worked in a factory during the night to get some more money, their mobile phones were better than any of ours too. We cant live in their country or claim anything inc accommodation why should they come here and do it. Labour party ruined this country and like you say we pay taxes all our lives then we are the poor pensioners and they are still coming to England in carts loads non stop and criminals too crime is on the increase since they have come here and put in down to prejudice and get away it even killing what is Tony Blair doing when he agreed to all this??

I agree with many of your sentiments.

Whilst I have no problem allowing immigrants into the country, I believe they should be able to take their place in society and support themselves and offer skills in the job market.

I also believe we probably have a duty to assist people GENUINELY seeking asylum - but too many people just use it as an excuse and demand homes, cars, state of the art electrical equipment, money and interpreters - along with free education, health care etc. without contributing a penny to the economy of the country.

That said, there are many British born and bred wasters also and a complete review of the system is needed. This country is seriously beginning to hack me off and I am starting to look at moving abroad - although whether it will be any better or not, who can say?

yawn...how many times is this question going to be asked. didn't get that job -blame the immigrants...didn't get an appointment at the hospital..blame the immigrants blah blah blah.

The whingers really do not bother looking at the facts. YOUR country is dependant on immigrants..imagine life with no doctors /nurses...net domestic deficit ..investment pulled away to other countries...crash in jobs and the housing market....inflation will be rife. and the pound will get weaker. DId you realise that will be one of the consequences. You'll save tax, because there will will be no jobs, no pay and hence no direct tax...but indirect tax will surge...the country needs something from somewhere.

I do wonder who you blame once the immigrants are gone...yourself!!!! If this ever happens....believe me you will be financially, economically and perhaps even physically a LOT LOT worse off.

If you want something better...here's a secret.... work hard, keep your nose clean, respect and be respected and you'll enjoy life for what it is , you 'll find out that life isn't so bad if you stop judging others and realise whats good for you doesn't have to be as much or as little as the next person.

bottom line ...this country's economy will fall to pieces without immigrants...and guess what ,then you can blame the immigrants for getting out due to small minded petty insecurities of the people who asked them to leave. Eventually people like you will pick on someone else and keep moving on until you turn on yourselves. You always need to blame someone else for your own inadequaties and situation, rather than looking at yourselves...if you want a better life ...then work for it. Sounds easy eh?, but its work and that is what work means.

grow up...check your facts....this is not a game, don't behave like an ignorant moron.

I am a 25 years old portuguese, and i live and work in Ireland for 3years,ok Ireland is not England but the story shouldnt be to different.Since im here i pay my taxes as every worker and i pay everything else im asked to pay,i pay rent,tv licence etc...i even give money to hospitals and associations to help poor people even though it is not my country but i see people around me who dont do the same even if they get more money than me and they are in their own country.Let me tell you that in my country i was a shoes designer earning 350€ a MONTH,can you realize how low is that when you have to pay like 150€ rent+electricity bill+petrol+food etc...?those are not luxuary things but things basics,i cant avoid it.Anyway,i moved to ireland to work in a factory as operator on a line,i dont really think i have studied for that but i can always get a better life and honest and i got the job because they were looking for people and not enough people apply for the job so since i have started paying taxes for my neighbours,a couple,22 and 23 years old who just thought that working was to hard and as they have a child the government help them so they dont need to work, they are in their country so come on,do you worry about people like that?there is thousands of them!!If immigrants are looking for a better life they look for a job and if they work they pay taxes but now i do believe that not all of them are like that so i can understand your anger but we are not all the same,i understand that im not in my country and i have to respect this country as if it was mine and follow the rules and believe me it is hard to see people from this country not following them and complaining.I could tell you a lot more but i will just say that to many immigrants mite be bad but your government is to blame on that one.Any comments good or bad you can send an e-mail to: genobarbosa@yahoo.ie

I understand what you are saying... However, I disagree.... Many of the immigrants that are in the UK are asylum seekers... why?? how is bombing their countries??? I guess I leave it to you.... Just remember what the UK did the same thing in the past... they went to India and established their kingdom there.... Probably the Indians were thinking the same about the immigrants back then.....

I think the World is changing... The UK isn't the only place packed with immigrants... just see USA, France, Germany, Spain... They have exactly the same problem.... So, I suppose that is part of the change.... The World is not the same anymore.

Now people in Africa are dying of hunger... Do you feel sorry for them? I guess they are wishing to have a better life somewhere else but unfortunately some of them can't or simply they die before they even try...... Come on! Be more open minded! I think is time to get on with your own life.... Help them as much as you can!!

Is sad to see that racists still exist (not saying this to anyone here)....

Wow. Y'know, I'd considered immigrating, maybe not forever, but longer than a vacation, to really immerse myself in the culture and learn about your country. And I would *never* expect to be *given* anything, just get a job, and pay taxes like anyone else. Can I assume you also have an Illegal problem, or are you serious that the majority of immigrants are that way?

Stop whinging ! Get off the computer! Start a soup kitchen! If you were as worried as you claim about the homeless and cold you'd be far too busy to entertain the thought of taxes,NHS and the rest of it. I worked in England during the 70's and from experience you lot have a good many blueblood bludgers that refuse to pull their own weight let alone go above and beyond!!

Hi,i am with you all the way.I'm aNottingham lad that had to move to Germany because all the mirgrants come to the Uk and have started taking our jobs!i am a butcher and slaughter man,and the company i used to work for took on Polish and Russian people because they were prepared to work for half the amount than we did.Thankfully i am now married and have work here in Germany ,and been accepted it to the German community.Best Regards from Dortmund Germany

ps I still miss my HOMELAND,but as long as they keep letting migrants in,many more of real Uk citizens may have to do what i did!!,but this is only my point of view
2006-09-23 02:08:15 UTC
This is a very rare event. A racist rant that is grammatical and easy to follow.

1. We all want a better life. It starts with education. Funded by taxpayers. As a nation we accept that there are many things desirable for the common good and benefit of all, and we fund the centrally from tax revenue.

2. How are you paying for immigrants? Most (I agree, not all) want to come to this country to better themselves by working. This means they pay tax. They are contributing to this nation. I assume you, like me, are someone who pays tax. Too many who complain about immigrants costing us money are actually those British who don't actually pay any tax. I actually resent paying for the British who won't better themselves far more than for immigrants who want to.

3. There is no evidence that immigrants have brought disease with them. That is just blind prejudiced nonsense. Back that up with evidence, please. What diseases? How many cases? Where?

4. If you think the NHS is in trouble now, try sending immigrants away and see how many doctors and nurses go. Have you not worked out that immigrant doctors and nurses keep our NHS afloat. And in many cases they have trained abroad, so our NHS gets the benefits of their expertise without having to pay for their training. Perhaps we should make British trained doctors work in our NHS to repay the cost of their training, and not let them chase money in the private sector and USA.

5. You probably guessed. I'm not with you.

6. I can say what I want. Political correctness doesn't stop me saying anything. I don't use terms like "ni**er" (Yahoo's editing, not mine) and "paki" out of courtesy and respect for peoples' feelings. It's nothing to do with PC. Were you about during the World Cup? Round our way you couldn't move for St George's flags. Nobody stops you flying it. Some people might not like it, but hey, I might not like your shirt. It's not going to stop you wearing it.

7. Actually (this one's from first hand experiences) in secondary schools round our way, no translators are provided. Immigrant children who can't speak English are unfortunately just dumped in the classroom to sink or swim. You can guess which are the words they learn most quickly! We're getting close to agreement here - immigrants to any land should learn the dominant language and quickly. It's for their own benefit and most do. If we can help them to do this we get them working and paying tax all the quicker.

8. Immigrants don't get everything they want free -you just want to believe that. Most of our elderly do keep warm in the winter, some freeze. They'd still freeze if we sent all immigrants away. We'd still have homeless. The two issues are unrelated.

Now, imagine a UK without any immigration. Just think how poor the food would be! An NHS in complete meltdown. No one willing to do dirty work in service industries. Give me service in shops, restaurants from clean, polite, intelligent Eastern Europeans over surly, incompetent British people any time.

I believe that immigration has enriched our nation greatly. I am not naive enough to believe that there are not problems, but these are outweighed by the benefits. It takes an open mind uncluttered by prejudice to see this.

you make some good points, aside from your racist remarks. However you're only thinking of the immigrants who are a burden on society, i.e. the ones that take welfare. But have you ever looked at the people who are actually contributing to the economy positively or contributing in science and technology. For example the smartest mathmaticians and IT are Indians. The smartest all around are Asians (Chinese, Japanese, etc) who are also very hard workers. In the United States, Ahmed Zowel won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He invented something for the advancement of science and he is originally Egyptian. So while I agree with you that the poor are a burden on society, and a large majority of that are UK-born, you can't just say that all immigrants are bad.

too right shut our boarders and the people we catch put them into tent city prisons awaiting deport make it the worst time of there lives so there is no way they want to come here and will spread the word. lets get rid of them sucking the state dry on the nhs and schools and the benifits cause thats what is happening, and i think we all belive that.

bit of a tit for tat after all the plundering of diamonds, gold, wood, food, people etc from many countries in the past. think shipping food out of a country while the people are starving (India and Ireland) how do you make reparations for that? Pay up!

I agree with much of what you say about our elderely, homeless and needy, you are absolutely right - we should do more for those who cant fend for themselves, we should look at ways of improving the lives of our citizens, our country is a great place to live but we could make it better too.

However, it isn't immigration that is the cause of all our ills. Immigration or the ceasing of, or repatriation of people who have settled, will not solve our social issues. If anything it will exacerbate them and lead to a disintegration of our society. It would allow people with views not too dissimilar to your own to build a head of steam and create all sorts of social tensions and divisions and undo years of progress.

You are simply focusing on a minority and seeing them as the problem. Maybe you should look at focusing on the institutions that allow these things to happen. Maybe you could start say (if you don't already), doing some volunteering to help the elderley, or the homeless or the needy even. Would be a far better use of your energy, and you'd feel better for it too. Why not lead by example? Can you imagine how better things could be, if we all just stopped whinging and whining for 2 seconds and adopted an attitude of 'what can I do to affect a positive change ' Its the little things that make the difference.

Where is trying to whip up anti immigration "hate someone cos they are different" type arguments gonna get anybody? What you gonna do when they are all sent back home then, who you gonna focus your vitriol on then? The Asian community? The African? The Afro Caribbean? The Irish? Where do you draw the line?

Then there are all the business that will fail due to the fact that they don't have access to cheap labour to fill crappy jobs that no one else wants to do.

Our country is built up of a diverse group of people from all over our planet. People who have often arrived here and made something of their lives and contributed to our society. Maybe you could see the positve in this and embrace it, learn something from it, push it back out on to your community/friends/family even.

You talk of all these immigrants as being a drain on our resources, yet say not one word about our so called 'own' who sit about on their lazy good for nothing bottoms, smoking fags, getting drunk, claiming benefits, refusing to work, raising good for nothing useless kids who neither care or will contribute a single ounce of usefulness to our society, the kind of kids who ruin housing estates and make the lives of their fellow citizens a nightmare. The type who fill our courts week in week out with crimes against the decent majority. Then there are all the businesses who avoid tax, rich indivuals who don't pay nothing what about them?

See, I get why you asked the question - you are angry, you have this perception that our country is awful, is going down the pan, and that immigrants are, in your view the reason why. Maybe you live on some council estate and live near to a couple of noisy families who happen to be 'immigrants' maybe you are the type of person who sits in a little huddle in pubs with like minded people and draws comfort from blaming everything on 'the bloody immigrants' or something or maybe you just hate Johnny foreigner even, hell , maybe you are some radicalist for some far right wing organisation even - I dont know.

Like it or not, the days of insularity are over. The power structures have shifted, The United States of Europe are a reality, people speak of the European Community. Healthy communities embrace diversity and change. Those that do not, wither and die trampled under the steamroller of change.

I dont expect you to agree with me, in fact you might even hate me a little! But hey, at least we can smile at the fact that we live in a society that allows us to disagree and debate matters close to our hearts!

Thanks for the question.

You are spot on, improving their lives but helping to destroy ours. But this is what you get with radical/revolutionary, unpatriotic, lefty/liberal, totalitarian Governments. In their minds eye, we are already part of the Federal EU, our borders don't exist, they are only playing at stopping people coming in. The British public seem more interested in moaning on about the Iraqi war than saving their Country from the clutches of the EU and seamless immigration. Meanwhile, teachers/lecturers, TV media, Guardianistas, support the Government with their never ending indoctrination of the British people. ARE THEY DELIBERATELY TRYING TO DESTROY THE COUNTRY?

I realise that immigration is only one symptom out of many other problems created by this government. Please ignore the ignorant responses you have received so far, they are part of the problem: as I stated above, they will have been brainwashed by the entities I have already referred to, and they are only capable of spewing out the usual mantra. One of your respondents poured out the usual dribble about needing immigration to keep the economy going. He forgets, or probably never knew, that there are 3.5million people on the benefits register that should be on the unemployed register, there are far too many people in Universities who shouldn't be there, and there is massive over manning in the Public Sector. So, no more hogwash about needing immigrants.

I'd vote for you if you was running for PM. Well said. I'm with you.

They want a better life. Well so do we but our lives are getting worse not better. This is only a small Island and is already over populated. The British people will soon be the minority.
2006-09-23 01:25:26 UTC
speaking of elderly, we have such an aged population that our economy depends on low paid migrants. without them we wouldn't be able to pay for an NHS.

Fair Play to you, its about time someone had the balls ( or ball-less's) to say something, i have just had a chat with a lad from albania, his brother and sister both cant speak english, he translates for them. I asked him why he wanted to live here and did he like it, his answer was:

EASY ACCESS

EASY MONEY

EASY JOBS

Both of my Grandads fought in the war to keep our country free, thousands upon thousands of englishmen died doing what they thought was right, to keep their families safe at home, THEY DIED TO LOOK AFTER ME AND YOU......

I'm in with you all the way and don't all you narrow minded tossers call me racist

The Americans say the same thing about you when you come to the U.S. and take a job away from them or stay here illegally. How many UK citizens are there in the U.S.? They are also a burden to society but not bothered because they are WHITE.
2006-09-23 00:40:09 UTC
I agree with you. I live in a community that is described by the government as a deprived area. I am involved with the community and have access to the list of grants awarded to community groups.

To use as an example:- A youth project that has been established in our community for over 15 years received £5,000, a project helping Africa's (there are approx 10 so far) settle into our community received £95,000!!!!!!! No wonder they refer to our area as deprived....it will never get any better if we continue to try and solve the worlds problems rather than looking after its own first.

If this answer is considered racist...I don't care...I have had enough!

Flipping heck, what horrid things to think & say - surely it is our responsibility as one of the wealthiest countries in the world with one of the best life styles to try to help those less fortunate. Your selfish facist view point sickens me. We need more builders, plumbers and manual labourers to fill our skills gaps and do the jobs no British person is willing to - like picking the vegetables for your dining table. And what about those poor people from places like Angola who live in permanent danger from war & famine. I can't believe you can be so heartless & hateful.
